Maine Coon

The Maine Coon is one of the largest cats available. The name Maine Coon is derived from the fact that it the breed was first seen in Maine (US), and because its tail is very large and was thought to be similar in looks to that of a raccoon.

Maine Coons have long, thick, silky fur, and have playful and friendly temperaments. While they are generally active, loving to climb and run around, they can also love to snuggle and sit in your lap.

Despite the fact that Maine Coons have long, thick fur, they require very little maintenance. A good brushing once or twice a week will do the trick, though a little more often is advised during shedding season to cut down on the amount of hair swallowed during their own grooming.

Maine Coons develop slowly, and, unlike most cats, reach full maturity at around 3 years old.
